Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve

May 19th 2011 by Sara

Torre Guaceto is a protected marine area and wildlife reserve located about an hour's drive south of Bari, the capital city of the Puglia region. The reserve includes a stretch of coast six kilometers long, characterised by typical Mediterranean landscape ranging from the sea to sand dunes, Mediterranean scrub and marshes, bordered by centuries-old olive groves.

Hide away with that special someone under a makeshift umbrella next to a gorgeous piece of driftwood...and pretend you are lost on a deserted island!

Visit one of the few protected natural marshes in Puglia, home to a variety of fish and amphibians.

This nature preserve is one of the last places you will find undeveloped beaches, where nature has been left untouched.

The Mediterranean scrub, typical to this area, but threatened by development, grows freely here.

Imagine the heady scent of this enormous field of wild camomile.

An explosion of natural color, scent and beauty!

Torre Guaceto is home to a wide variety of sea and land flora and fauna.

The road leading to the beach is lined by these charming dry-stone walls, typical of the Puglia region.

Sit down in the sand, relax and take the time to marvel in the beauty that surrounds you.

End your day at Torre Guaceto with a relaxing walk, barefoot in the sand, planning your next trip back to this slice of Paradise.
