The Venice Film Festival is an important Slice of Italy from cultural and artistic point of view. What happens is that the Festival history has been linked with crucial Italian historical events such as the World War II and the Italian restistance, the birth of the Italian republic, the protests of 1968.
The Venice Film Festival has never stopped and it is still growing up in boosting the prestige of the Italian cinema.
Here is some Pearls of The Venice Film Festival:

-It was founded in 1932
-It is the oldest international film festival in the world
-The Leone D’Oro (Golden Lions) is the principal award and also symbol of the City
-The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Rouben Mamoulian was the 1st movie projected
-From 1937 takes place in the historic Palazzo del Cinema
-2011 is the year of 68th Venice International Film Festival
